Some like whipped cream, some enjoy only crushed cookies, and others are traditionalists, savoring their sweet frozen treat and nothing else. So what are some of the most popular ice cream toppings out there?
In a study done by Grub Hub, these were the trendy ice cream additions:
#1 Whipped cream -- Almost half of all orders (48%) made during the study period were topped with whipped cream.
#2 Hot fudge -- One-third of all sundae eaters slather their frozen treat in this hot decadent delight.
#3 Chocolate syrup -- A perfect addition for those who want their ice cream to stay cold, this chocolatey treat is a favorite among 29% of respondents.
#4 A cherry on top -- As many as 21% of ice cream eaters top off their dessert with a cherry.
#5 Caramel -- A whole 14% choose the sweet stuff over chocolate.
#6 Strawberry -- In order to get a bit more fruit in their diet, 11% of all orders had strawberries of some kind.
#7 Walnuts -- Only 8% of all ice cream orders in the study requested a crunchy, nutty topping.
#8 Oreos -- Not only “Milk’s Favorite Cookie,” but ice cream’s as well! Oreo was included in 7% of orders.
#9 Bananas -- This fruit topped only 6% of all ice cream treats in the survey.
However, in another survey by Statista, more toppings made the cut. They include:
#1 Sprinkles -- About 20% of all participants put these little rainbow additions on their sundae.
#2 Candy Bits -- These sweet treats were included in 17% of all sundaes in the study.
#3 Marshmallows -- A whole 11% wanted an entirely new flavor sensation!
