How to Make Apple Pie Ice Cream

September is here and that means fall ice cream flavors! If you want to spice up your ice cream shop this autumn, we have the perfect recipe for you! It's not pumpkin spice... It's apple pie! Here's a great recipe for apple pie ice cream.

What You'll Need:

  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch chunks)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Your favorite vanilla ice cream base
  • 1/2 cup chopped shortbread cookies

How to Make it:

1. Melt it together

Start by combining your brown sugar, butter, and salt in a medium saucepan on low heat. Mix it until the butter is completely melted and starts to bubble.

2. Cook your apples

Add your cut and peeled apples to your saucepan. Fold this mixture until the apples are fully coated. Turn your stove up to medium heat. Cook the apples until they're soft and most of the liquid has dissolved. This should take 15-20 minutes.

Because of the water content of apples, they freeze completely solid. It's important to cook them all the way through so your customers can eat them easily.

3. Cool it

Once you've cooked your apples, move them to an airtight container. Allow to chill for at least two hours or until cold.

4. Combine with ice cream

Once you're ready to churn your ice cream, combine half of your ice cream base with your cooked apples in a food processor or blender. Blend until nearly smooth.

5. Churn it
